Gajah Mina: Guardian of the Gates of Heaven in the Ocean of the Soul

Gajah Mina in Campuhan: Symbolic Heritage or Soul Release Ritual?

The earth we live on has elements including water, fire, air, earth, and sky, which in Hindu belief are known as Panca Maha Bhuta (Five elements within oneself). Each of these elements has a power that is very important in the spiritual world in enhancing their spirituality. In addition, Hindu society strongly believes in the existence of astral beings that symbolize a power that is always alive and protects its followers.

Gajah Mina, a creature in the form of a fish with an elephant’s head, is believed to be a path to spiritual enlightenment. The elephant can also be interpreted as a symbol of wisdom and steadfastness in practicing dharma, while Mina, or fish, is a symbol of consciousness.

The union of these two forms is a symbol of balance that is capable of guiding and liberating the soul towards union with the Creator.

The Creation of Gajah Mina in Campuhan: When Nature Becomes the Gateway to Eternity

The construction of the Gajah Mina statue located in Campuhan was carried out under the instructions of Queen Bagus, which were received by Jero Lanang. This statue will be approximately 9 meters long from head to tail. On the back of Gajah Mina, a “Meru Tumpang Pitu” (seven-roofed building) will be built, which is a sacred temple with seven levels as a symbol of spiritual achievement. Measured from the foundation at ground level to the top, the meru will reach a height of 8 meters.
